This week we will be hearing an update about our CAP Debt centre and all the work it has done the last year to help those in need as well as hear from Rachel Arnold from CAP as part of our talk.
During our services this week we’ll be celebrating our social action inititatives by hearing an update from the team for all that has happened over the last year and ways to get involved this upcoming year.
We will also be spending time remembering those who are in need by taking a food collection for York Foodbank during each service.
The Belfrey’s Social Action Team would love to invite you to an evening to celebrate everything that has been achieved through our Post Pandemic Fund and Social Action Programme over the last 3 years. We are incredibly grateful for the gift of £1million that enabled us to set up the Fund in 2021, to help the community of York recover from the Covid pandemic.
Come and celebrate with us and hear stories about the difference that this fund has made in the city, from the charities and churches that we’ve supported with grants, and from the social action ministries we’ve been able to start here at The Belfrey. We’re excited to share about all we’ve seen God do, and about our vision for the future.
This free ticketed event will be on Wednesday 9th October, 7.30pm at the De Grey Rooms. and you can book your ticket below
During our Sunday services this week, we’ll be launching a new social action initiative we are partnering with, Safe Families. Come along to hear more and find out how you can get involved.
Join us as we spend a Sunday dedicated to learning about the work of CAP and all that has been happening over the last year in our CAP Debt centre.
We have two guest speakers joining us that day:
9am and 11am - Alex Jones (Acting Director for Fundraising and Income)
Alex is a dedicated and visionary leader who has been instrumental in shaping CAP’s fundraising and income strategies since joining in 2017. With a strong belief in the inherent dignity and infinite worth of every individual, Alex is driven to create a world where everyone is treated with dignity and respect. Alex firmly believes in the collective power of individuals working together to bring about positive change, be it through prayer, volunteering, advocacy, or giving. A Baptist by background and membership, he is passionate about church unity and celebrates the rich diversity of Christian expression across the world, eager to harness it to see lives transformed.
6pm - Peter Snell (Money Coaching Lead)
Peter first heard about Christians Against Poverty (CAP) when his church at the time, on the Isle of Wight, decided to partner with CAP to help local people locked in unmanageable debt. Ever since seeing it firsthand he’s been passionate at the way that CAP and the local church together can see lives, families and communities totally transformed, and how serving in this ministry transforms your own life too. Peter has worked at CAP for 9 years during which time he spent 2 years at CAP New Zealand as well as leading our National Speaker Team in the UK. He currently leads CAPs Money coaching network of over 500 churches, which, since 2008 has empowered over 80,000 adults to experience the freedom of feeling in control of their finances.
During our services on the 8th October, we will be having a particular focus on Social Action and serving our local community. As part of each service, we will be taking a collection for York Foodbank, who provided needed toiletries and food for those in great need.
Do come along and bring something to offer. At the moment, they are in particular need of:
cartons of fruit juice
deodorant (male and female)
instant mash
jars of pasta sauce
laundry detergent
packets of biscuits
rice
shampoo and conditioner
shaving foam and disposable razors
sponge puddings
sweets/chocolate
tinned meat
tinned veg (peas, sweetcorn, carrots)
UHT milk
We are holding a whole church day helping those less fortunate than us by cleaning, decorating rooms and clearing gardens in partnership with the charity Besom.
This is an amazing way to serve York by showing the love of Jesus in a practical way. It’s just a one-day commitment too. You can join us as a Belfrey group or as an individual and we'll put you into teams.
