We’ve moved!
St Michael le Belfrey will be open to the public until the end of September 2023, most weekdays in the late morning.
We’re renovating and renewing St Michael le Belfrey church building so that it can become even more fit-for-purpose for worship and mission for the future. This significant renovation and re-ordering work is called our Impact Project. We are in the process of moving out of St Michael le Belfrey ahead of construction starting.

St Michael le Belfrey church includes one of the most notable collections of sixteenth-century stained glass in any English parish church, including four panels depicting the life of Gilbert, St Thomas à Becket's father. There’s also evidence of Guy Fawkes' baptism, which took place here over 500 years ago, and we have a vibrant church life today. Our team will give you a warm welcome!
Facilities we offer include toilets, and a water station in partnership with Yorkshire Refill. We strive to be an accessible venue within the limits of our current building: we offer accessible entry, and will be pleased to escort you to an accessible toilet in our adjacent office building. Our welcome team have recently been trained in welcoming visitors with learning disabilities and communication difficulties, and Mental Health First Aid training is also given. The team will be pleased to respond to any needs you may have, so please just ask!
We are a family-friendly attraction, offering a play area and baby changing facilities. We are also breastfeeding-friendly, and are partnered with the Breastfeeding Network.
