What is the Leadership Year?
The Leadership Year (otherwise known as ‘LY’) is a 10-month internship programme for 18- to 24 year old Christians. This year is specifically designed for Christian young adults who feel a call towards leadership in some capacity, and have usually completed the Discipleship Year prior to this year.
THE COURSE
Huddles, theology teaching and leadership courses
Placement in a local church or Christian organisation
New Wine Leadership Conference
Reading each month
Alternative placement
Team place at New Wine United
FINANCE
Each LYer pays £1000 for the course, and their Placement Centre contributes an additional £500.
We will be loaning you a Kindle with all of the reading material for the year. We ask for a £25 deposit at the beginning of the year for this.
We encourage our LY interns to find a part-time job to support themselves financially through the year.
LEARNING
On Monday mornings we meet for our Huddles, where we spend time sharing, learning and growing together as leaders. We have theology teaching with Theos U; an online resource of theology lectures termly, and then once a month our Thursday evenings are spent together on the Growing Leaders course.
SERVING
The Belfrey Leadership Year is a part-time commitment of 20 hours a week (4 hours of teaching and 16 hours of serving, which will regularly include up to 4 hours on a Sunday). We encourage you to serve in a ministry which you feel passionate about and will give you more responsibility as a Leadership Year student.
SUPPORT
Each LYer has a ministry supervisor and a spiritual mentor. There is also an Internship Coordinator who is responsible for the course and the overall pastoral care of the LYers - they'll be your first port of call when you apply, and throughout the year.
