Hello Church!

We’re so excited to have established this Eco Advisory Group here at St Michael le Belfrey. We’re a group of enthusiastic individuals, passionate about sustainability, climate justice, and caring for God’s wonderful creation. We know that this journey toward more sustainable practices can be challenging, both in our personal lives and as a Church, but we also know it is joyful and exciting work. And most importantly, it is work that God invites us to do with Him.

We're very glad to be working with you all on this and we are always open to suggestions, so please don’t hesitate to contact us via the contact form below.

Daniel Brookes

Daniel has been a member of St Michael's for over 40 years and is one of the church Wardens. He works as a Facilities manager and is responsible for the council's EcoDepot.

As a member of the Impact Board he is keen to ensure that the church is fully eco friendly and sustainable.

Ian Dawson

Ian Dawson worships at the Belfrey and is a researcher of farming and forestry, mostly in a development setting.

Luke Gooding

Luke is a researcher at the Stockholm Environment Institute in York. He specialises in researching community engagement and behaviour change in relation to sustainable development. He is passionate about promoting equitable futures for communities of all types: developing communities with healthy places to live, work, and take leisure.

Cathryn Fergie

Cathryn has been worshipping at The Belfrey since 2011 and is a member of the 11am congregation. She wants to help others see what small differences they can make to live more sustainably for God's glory.

Suzanna Frazer

Suzanna is a big-time member of St Michael Le Belfrey with interests in ecology, climate change and packaging sustainability.

Zoe King

Zoe is a Leadership Year Intern at the Belfrey and is particularly involved with the student community at the church. She is passionate about justice and seeing the breaking out of God's Kingdom. She helps with the admin for the Eco Advisory Group and liaises with the staff and communications team.

Tony Scott

Since retiring in 2009 as Chief Architect at Leeds City Council, where he took the Management Team lead in sustainability and had been involved in
projects which received national sustainability awards, he has concentrated on lowering his own carbon footprint by making his own home, and those of his two daughters, as Eco friendly as possible.

As part of our journey to become a more sustainable Church, we are using the Eco-Church award scheme, by A Rocha UK. We’re happy to say we have already achieved the Bronze award and are now working towards the Silver Award.
