Prayer

Prayer is communication with God and basic to the life of the follower of Jesus. We believe that nothing of lasting significance happens without prayer and so prayer is crucial to the life of The Belfrey.

We encourage disciples to live prayerfully, setting aside regular time each day for prayer. There are daily opportunities to pray with others, and prayer is an important component of every congregation and Group.

As well as working and partnering with others for God's transformation of the North, we are praying for this.

There are many types of prayer, including intercession, thanksgiving and confession. We also value Prayer Ministry, where we ask the Holy Spirit to come and work in our midst. Prayer Ministry takes place in all our congregations and often in Groups.

We love to welcome as many people as possible to our weekly prayer meetings: Dynamic Prayer takes place on Tuesdays from 7-8am, followed by croissants and coffee. A group also meets on Tuesdays from 1-2pm for Lunchtime Prayer.

Staff gather every morning to pray for the Transformation of the North.

Several times per year we gather as a whole church for an Evening of Prayer. In 2012 the dates are

  • 8 March 7.30pm St Michael’s
  • 24 May 7.30pm St Michael’s
  • 12 July 7.30pm St Michael’s
  • 20 September 7.30pm St Michael’s
  • 22 November 7.30pm St Michael’s

In recent months we have begun to have some times when 24 hours is set aside for prayer. In the long-term, we hope to cover York and the North in 24/7 Prayer and are hoping to see a House of Prayer established in York.

24/7 Prayer

24-7 Prayer has now begun, and you can still sign up for slots.

If you have signed up and at any point have a problem getting into the building, or you need to leave when there is no one else there to replace you, please ring 07885 240901.

Restore News

Restore (York) is housing and supporting 13 people who used to be homeless in three houses. We have just agreed to lease a fourth house as the Charity aims to expand to six houses by the end of the year. This work is demanding and challenging for everyone involved. The support worker, board members, treasurer, project manager and volunteers all need to be upheld in prayer.

Belfrey Evening of Prayer

This Thursday (May 24th) is our next Evening or Prayer, where members from all parts of the church come together to pray for the Transformation of the North. This time, we will be praying for More than Gold, and the events that churches across our city are running to share the Gospel. 7.30-9.30pm in church.

Pray for More Than Gold

With events taking place across the city (and further afield) for More Than Gold, we all need to be praying that God would change our city.

24-7 Prayer: this week

This is a week of 24-7 Prayer in the Parish Centre from Friday 18 to Thursday 24 May in preparation for More Than Gold. Please sign up to pray for the mission and our city - whoever you are, whatever your age, and however easy you find it to pray.
